Artcards presents: Artist Conversations
A Panel Discussion & Performance Event on the Role of the Internet for Curators, Collectives, Artists, and Galleries
On Wednesday, July 20th Artcards will launch "Artist Conversations" with an artist and curator round table discussion and performances at the Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn. A select panel of artists and curators will examine today's role of the internet as a tool for independent curators and artist-run collectives, and the changing role of the gallery in an increasingly internet dependent society. Benefits and challenges of the internet’s increasing role in the art community will also be discussed.
The evening will launch with a pyrotechnic performance by Jesse Boardman Kauppila, followed by a short remixed/remediated/re-imagined homage to Dan Graham live act by G. Douglas Barrett. The panel discussion will be followed by a performance by sound artist Aki Onda presenting his analog soundscapes of exotic memories and field recordings.
Panelists include:
- Mark Tribe (founder, Rhizome)
- David Andrew Frey (founder, Culturehall)
- Kris Chatterson & Vince Contarino (cofounders, Progress Report)
- Caitlin Masley (multimedia artist)
- Chelsea Knight (video artist)
Program:
7:00 PM - PERFORMANCE: Jesse Kauppila (SF), G. Douglas Barrett (NY)
7:30 PM - PANEL DISCUSSION
9:00 PM - PERFORMANCE: Aki Onda (NY, JP)
