Earlier this week, legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno was injured during practice when wide receiver Devon Smith ran into him and knocked him over.
The 84-year-old coach suffered injuries to his hip, shoulder and pelvis. Luckily, he's okay and is set to return to practice on Wednesday.
This isn't the first time Joe Pa has been roughed up due to a sideline collision. In 2006, he broke his leg after being run into during his team's game against Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium.
But as a result of his latest injury, Paterno agreed to shoot a commercial to officially endorse a product he's come to rely on while roaming the Nittany Lion sidelines.
The MZone has obtained an exclusive first look at the ad which is set to air for the first time next weekend during 60 Minutes.

The Most Interesting (Michigan) Man in the World
Several months ago I started thinking about an idea for another MZone video. Unfortunately, life intervened and I never got around to it.
But, last week, our friend Dave at Maize n Brew did a piece that inspired me to finish the darn thing.
So MZone Motion Picture Corp, in association with I Need To Stop Wasting Valuable Productive Time Making These Things When I Should Be Working, presents...

Meet Luke Fickell
Ohio State officially unveiled interim INTERIM INTERIM (emphasis Ohio State's, not MZone's) head coach Luke Fickell yesterday. Here's a brief bit of the presser...
What?
That's not him? Are you sure?
Well...okay.
Here's another clip of some other dude talking in Columbus yesterday.
If I were a Buckeye fan (and I thank the Lord each and every day that I am not), he doesn't exactly inspire a ton o' confidence based on this press conference (either of the above). Hell, he looks like the 37-year-old assistant that he was until the "Fickell" finger of football fate tapped him on the shoulder. Then again, the guy was thrown into a no-win (or some would say, no-lose) situation.
But you never know. Who would've thought that Lloyd Carr would've gone on to a National Title and Hall of Fame career when he got his unexpected shot? Same guys just step up when the rest of the world counts them out.
Yet Fickell's future in Columbus may not come down to W's and L's.
When asked if he had known of any past or present NCAA violations or any players or coaches who had done the same, Fickell stumbled through the following answer:
It was almost as if he was trying to address a second part to that question which wasn't asked: “If the cars and memorabilia and tattoos were so prevelant, how could you not have noticed, too? Everyone else on campus seemed to notice the cars the players were driving.”
So the bottom line is, if Tosu's Troubles turn out to be rampant in the program (and not isolated to the Tat 5), I think OSU is going to need a clean break with the past, no matter how well Luke Fickell does on the field (I'm also looking at you, Gene Smith and Gordon Gee). He'll get the broom in after the season even if Urban Meyer isn't taking their calls.
Finally, while we swear OSU'sdeer in the headlights INTERIM head coach looks like a certain waterboy, MZone reader JS said Fickell has "runaway bride eyes"...

Tressel's Heroes: I know nothing...NOTHING!
Got the following email from MZone reader Bob last week:
Agreed. Your wish is our command, Bob. See below!
I just read the article on Andy’s buffet about making Tressel stay and not firing him. I had a thought when I read it and wanted to pass it on.
Excerpt from the article:
A few years ago Troy Smith, the Ohio State Heisman Trophy winner, admitted he had received improper benefits from boosters.
Tressel claimed no knowledge.
Before that, running back Maurice Clarett said in an ESPN The Magazine article that the coach, other members of the Buckeyes staff and Ohio State boosters were guilty of numerous N.C.A.A. improprieties, including providing him — and at times others — with free loaner cars, bogus jobs that paid well and passing grades for classes he did not attend. Nothing came of the accusations, and Clarett wound up in prison for crimes unrelated to football.
Then there was Ray Isaac, Tressel’s quarterback at Youngstown State. Isaac ran into trouble with the N.C.A.A. because he received improper benefits, including money and the use of cars.
Tressel, again, said he knew nothing, though Youngstown State eventually admitted to wrongdoing and accepted minor penalties.
We need a youtube extract of Sargent Schultz (from Hogan’s Heros) saying “I know nothing”
Agreed. Your wish is our command, Bob. See below!

MZone Exclusive: Troy Punter Will Goggans' Acting Reel
The college football blogosphere and yours truly have been buzzing about the beard sported by Troy punter Will Goggans at Saturday's New Orleans Bowl. Put it this way, ZZ Top circa 1987 would be impressed.
And he's not just a football player. With such a unique look, he's also an accomplished character actor. Our sources have uncovered the exclusive video below from Goggans' acting reel. In fact, we think you might recognize some of his previous work.

U-M AD, Fans: Torn Between Two Coaches (aka Being Dave Brandon: The Musical)
While we may kid around here at the MZone, we fully understand how difficult the coaching decision facing Michigan AD Dave Brandon is. That's because many Michigan fans feel the same way and are torn about what to do as well.
On the one hand, under Rich Rodriguez, the Wolverine offense has become explosive, almost the entire team is coming back, Rich Rod is a proven winner at previous coaching stops and nobody wants to start over from scratch.
And yet...
The Wolverines struggled against the top Big 10 teams again this season, the defense continues to show a lack of improvement and the kicking game is non-existent.
On top of all that, there is one other potential coaching option out there that even the most ardent Rich Rod supporter simply can't ignore. A name that has to at least be considered.
Yes, this is no time for our funny side here at the MZone. There's a reason Dave Brandon is struggling with making the correct coaching decision for 2011 and beyond.
In fact, if one were to put what's going on to music* - like say a Michigan blog whose founder has waaaaay too much time on his hands - it might go something like the video below.
So while Brian at MGoBlog put up a post yesterday called Being Dave Brandon, think of this as Being Dave Brandon: The Musical.
* No, that song was NOT on my iPod. I got it off YouTube. I'm hurt by the question.
PS See! You see what happens when you lose to your bitter rival SEVEN *&^% YEARS IN A ROW?! I've become the blogging equivalent of Col. Kurtz at the end of Apocalypse Now.

MZone Travel Advisory for U-M Fans Heading to Columbus
As you may know, the State Department maintains a Current Travel Warnings list. According the their website, "Travel Warnings are issued when long-term, protracted conditions that make a country dangerous or unstable lead the State Department to recommend that Americans avoid or consider the risk of travel to that country." On the list are places such as Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Burundi, Sudan, Somalia and other top vacation destinations if you're a soldier of fortune.
Unfortunately, the State Department does not maintain a list of the most dangerous places on earth for visiting college football fans. If they did, tops on that list would be the hell-hole known as Columbus. Put it this way, you'd probably feel less threatened visiting the tribal region of Pakistan's border with Afghanistan handing out Danish Mohammed cartoons than walking around Tosu wearing Michigan paraphernalia. I've personally had some horrible experiences there and Michigan's own Dean of Students actually warned U-M students traveling to The Game in 2006 to be careful. To my knowledge, this is the only time officials of any school have felt the need to caution its student body to be careful going to a college football game simply to cheer for their team.
And it's not just Michigan fans who have to suffer the abuse. Ohio State's president was forced to apologize to Texas fans in 2005 for the boorish behavior of Buckeye fans before, during and after the Tosu-Texas game in the 'Shoe.
So, the MZone has put together this little travel advisory video so you can get an idea of some Michigan-Ohio State weekends past.

Welcome to the Big 10, Nebraska: Where we leave your junk alone
During the days of the Original M Zone, we were introduced to the odd Texas A&M tradition in which their cadet corp grabs their packages during Aggie football games.
Well apparently this tradition has spread to the football team.
In the first quarter of Texas A&M's 9-6 upset of Nebraska on Saturday, Cornhusker tight end Ben Cotton dove on a fumble by his team. In the ensuing scrum to recover the loose ball, Aggie Tony "TSA" Jerod-Eddie attempted to get Cotton to release his grip on the football by squeezing the shit out of another ball in Cotton's possession.
Check it out in the latest MZone video creation below showing how the love of grabbing mansack has spread from the A&M fan base to the football field. Either that or Jerod-Eddie is getting ready for his interview with the Transportation Safety Administration this week.

Mystery Solved?
There used to be a TV show called IN SEARCH OF hosted by Leonard Nimoy that attempted to find out the truth behind various unexplained mysteries: Bigfoot, UFOs, the Loch Ness Monster, etc.
If it were still on the air, I think the new intro might look something like this over the past three years...
To be honest, before last weekend, I thought we'd find Bigfoot, UFOs and the Loch Ness Monster before Michigan's defense.
But, at least for one weekend, that mystery may have been solved when U-M's D held Purdue without an offensive touchdown in the Wolverine's 27-16 victory. Granted, it was Purdue. But after all the ugliness - especially on the heals of giving up 65 to an Illinois team that just got beaten by Minnesota - it's a start.
Well done, D.

Dantonio World: The Most Lenient Place on Earth
MSU Coach Mark Dantonio doesn't regret reinstating Chris Rucker back on the team the day he got out of jail and two days before the biggest game in Spartyville since LBJ. And why would he? It's a special, magical place in East Lansing...
In a related story, former Tosu RB Maurice Clarett said he is looking into the purchase of an alternate reality machine in order to start his career over as a Spartan.

Oh, the Humanity! Michigan Football Explodes
BREAKING NEWS:
(from MZone wire reports) State College, PA -- Michigan's once-proud football program exploded in a fireball of suck Saturday night when the Wolverines were beaten 41-31 by Penn State. During the game, the U-M defense let a 3rd string walk-on QB making his first start look like the second coming of Joe Montana.
While officials are still at the crash site, sources tell the MZone that the investigation is focusing on the ship's captain, Rich Rodriguez. Before Rodriguez took over at the helm, Michigan football hadn't had a losing season in 40+ years. But after back-to-back losing seasons and a third season that was rapidly beginning to unravel, speculation is mounting that pilot error by Rodriguez may have driven the winningest program in the history of college football straight into the fucking ground.
Sadly, MZone cameras were at the scene of the disaster and captured the exclusive video below.
WARNING: This video contains graphic images of a tradition-rich football program blowing up like Gerg's D-line on a simple off-tackle run. Viewer discretion - especially if you bleed Maize and Blue - is advised.
